Job Description:


  • Design and development of Rzeppa Joints, Cross Groove joints, Double Offset joints, Tripod joints, Interconnecting shafts, Boots, Clamps, and Grease as related to Halfshaft applications or High speed propellor shafts
  • Design, size and responsibly release designs for halfshaft products under consideration of loads, package, kinematics, durability, performance, robustness, and NVH
  • Perform basic design calculations for stiffness, strength & stresses as well as confirm them by proper CAE analysis
  • Select materials and lubrication according to standards, test results, literature, catalogues, and supplier recommendations
  • Disclose inventions for new designs and review patent applications for filing
  • Use CAD software (Catia, NX) for creation of 3D models, check kinematics and tolerance stack ups
  • Derive 2D drawings in CAD and create sketches in CAD and visualizations by using suitable software packages
  • Achieve DV complete status as per defined DV requirements on time
  • Perform simultaneous engineering with advanced manufacturing engineers and Supplier Development Engineers on new product designs to obtain manufacturing feasibility while optimizing for cost
  • Develop and maintain design guides for new product families
  • Identify and propose required new designs for advanced development
  • Create product presentations for internal and external customers
  • Lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) sessions, reporting the results for new product families (Generic DFMEA’s)
  • Enter and maintain documents on teamdrives and similar data storage systems
  • Propose product changes to the existing product families based on the advanced development design disclosures
  • Request purchasing information for rough parts, prototypes and orders. Submit demands (drawing, amount, material required date) to Purchasing for quote / pricing
  • Identify and define required design validation tests (DVP)
  • Order prototype materials and required tests (PD-Database)
  • Analyze, interpret and document the results of tests
  • Report project progress to management as an overview of the design and validation status (TDR - Technical Design Review)
  • Check project progress by creating and maintaining timing plans
  • Create project presentations
  • Release new products and new rough parts for series production
  • Advise colleagues, transfer knowledge, participate in workshops, seminars, and relevant training sessions
  • Implement cost saving ideas which are enabled by design modifications of rough, finished or purchased parts following the advanced development projects findings
  • Enable programs to maintain their milestones / gate timing requirements
  • Implement quality improvements into current designs for robustness, durability and performance
  • Create design proposals which improve / optimize NVH behavior
  • Benchmark competitive product assemblies and components

Preferred Skills:

Minimum Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (such as BSME) 
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in the job-related area 
  • High level of analytical ability 
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work independently & effectively with others 
  • High level of oral & written communication skills 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in Engineering (such as MSME) 
  • Design & release experience with driveline, powertrain, or chassis systems 
  • Familiarity with CAE tools, Six Sigma quality techniques, and powertrain NVH 
  • Familiarity with TS-16949 and automotive PPAP requirements
